Wooden windows installed in the time of the Union performed their main functions just excellent. They illuminated the room well, retained heat, did not give in too much the influence of the environment. But only the windows deteriorate over time, especially since most likely a few decades have passed. So it has become much worse with time to “work” over time.
Of course, in such a situation, the most simple solution will be the elementary replacement of the old wooden window with a brand new metal -plastic, or on a modern window from an aluminum profile.
Why do we replace the windows?
Most often, the main reason for replacing old windows with PVC structures is advertising. It’s no secret that we all at least partially be its victims. So we think that PVC is much better than the old design that was used in Soviet times. It is believed that they preserve heat better and worse let out extraneous sounds into the room. And the appearance seems so beautiful.
But if desired and skilled hands, you can make old windows no less beautiful than brand new metal -plastic. Yes, and more useful when the windows are made of wood, and not from polyvinyl chloride.
If your windows for many years have accumulated thick layers of paint on themselves, and they no longer give sufficient thermal insulation, do not rush to throw them away. Perhaps they can still be restored and continued to use.
We restore with our own hands
In order to restore the window, first you need to remove all the old accessories. You won’t need it anymore.
Next, you need to start applying washing, which can easily erase all the layered paint. Do not forget about overalls and winter costumes from Ivanovo, since the substance is aggressive and can cause significant harm to the body.
Now on the surface you can lightly walk around the surface to erase the washing, which still remained on the frames. After that, the surface is cleaned with sandpaper to a beautiful even state.
After that, putty is used, which will help remove small holes and hollows. If the surface is severely damaged, then pine chips are placed in place, which is sealed with ordinary PVA glue and fastened with nails.
Further, the surface is cleaned with fine sandpaper and is made to the perfect state.
Now you can paint. This is best done with a special spray, with which the windows will be painted more beautifully and evenly. It is best for painting a tree to choose enamel, which not only creates a beautiful coating, but also provides proper protection against insects.
Next, new loops are installed and accessories are changing. You can also replace the glass, instead by placing thin double -glazed windows.
If you restore the window well, then it will look and maintain heat no worse than its plastic counterparts.
