The material of the window frame

When choosing a window, you need to take into account four factors – frame, glass, design and installation. In this article we will talk about frames.

Most people know that the wooden frame is the least prone to transmission of heat and cold than metal, since metals are much easier than wood than wood. But this does not mean that the tree is always the best option for the window frame. Window frames are available in various options and each has its own positive and negative aspects. Look:

Plastic windows:

Simply because plastic is cheaper material does not mean that plastic windows will be the most budget option. Although, well -designed and correctly installed plastic windows are often the most practical and economical option. In addition, in energy efficiency options, plastic windows are also applicable, provided that the modern double -glazed window is used and the design itself is quite stiff and does not allow air leaks. Plastic windows can be limited in the choice of color, and many foreigners do not choose them only from the fact that they do not like the type of plastic.

Wooden windows:

Wooden windows offer the best insulating properties, although at the same time, the material itself requires more care than any other material. For a rainy and wet climate, wooden windows may not be a suitable option due to the possibility of decay. A well -made wooden window is a test of time – many wooden windows in old houses are still in good condition due to the type of wood that was used.

Aluminum windows:

Although this is not the most effective option from the point of view of heat loss, aluminum windows are more practical in rainy and wet climate, and also meet strict strength standards for accommodation in coastal zones subject to storms.

Partially wooden windows:

Partially wooden or combined frames from the outside (street part) are made of cheaper material, such as plastic or aluminum, while the inside (entering the room) is made of wood. Such windows are generally good, as they absorb the positive characteristics of the two types of material, but they are prone to passing water, which leads to decay from the inside of the frame. Thus, this type of windows should be installed correctly using a waterproof membrane and other ways to minimize moisture concentration.

Composite windows:

Windows made of wood chips and plastic resins can effectively imitate the appearance of the tree, but practically do not require care, like original wooden windows. Resins used in the material are often made of processed plastic, which is made by this option quite environmentally friendly.

Fiberglass windows:

This is a variant of the composite window, only the material is made of a mixture of fiberglass and polyester resins. Recently, fiberglass windows are distinguished separately from composite windows. Windows made of fiberglass have low thermal conductivity, therefore, are considered the most energy efficient. In addition, these frames are the most durable and they can be painted, unlike plastic frames. Another plus of this material is that it is not deformed as plastic or wood.
